Shift is a dance performance that will explore issues of sexuality, masculinity, stereotypes and negative perceptions endured by sports women in South Africa.
In doing so, the dance will commemorate the life of sports women more especially, the women who have managed to stand up against the patriarchal status quo that exists within our societies. Women who have managed to rise against the inequalities and discrimination that exist against women who are seen as different.
The University of Cape Town announces the winners of the Donald Gordon Creative Arts Fellowships, to be taken under the auspices of the Gordon Institute for Performing and Creative Arts (GIPCA).
Dance Umbrella 2011 is scheduled to run from February 24 to March 6, 2011. For ten days Johannesburg will be engulfed by contemporary dance. The venues will include Wits Theatre, The Dance Factory, the Goethe on Main and UJ Arts Centre.
The 2011 Standard Bank Young Artist Award winners are “a group of diversely unique individuals with distinctive artistic voices, who that are bringing a fresh edge to their respective disciplines,” said National Arts Festival Committee Chairman Jay Pather at the announcement of the winners of the prestigious award in Johannesburg last night, hosted by Standard Bank.
