Pushing the boundaries of integrated dance is very much the theme of this World Premiere of The Impending Storm.  Bringing together acclaimed UK dancers David Toole and Lucy Hind with Remix, South Africa’s only professional disabled and non-disabled dance company, this  unique collaboration created with artist Mark Storor, is an exploration of the personal and the political. It runs for two nights only as part of International Dance Festival Birmingham 2012 at The Patrick Centre, Birmingham Hippodrome, UNITED KINGDOM on Tuesday May 1st and Wednesday 2^nd.

‘off key’ is an integrated dance piece with four dancers and three live musicians. There are two able-bodied dancers, a dancer in a wheelchair, a dancer who is deaf, a drummer, a bass guitarist and a saxophonist. It is a simple love story: a desperate man is helped by unseen, unforeseen forces (cupids from the world beyond, if you like) to find meaning.

This is Malcolm Black, the artistic directors’, debut choreographic piece for stage; stepping away from the roll as performer where he has been a iconic performer for the last 10 years. Black was nominated for Best Newcomer in Contemporary Dance in 2002 by the FNB Dance Indaba.

Regarded as Cape Town’s largest premier dance platform and in its seventh year, the festival aims to provide emerging and established dance companies and choreographers with an opportunity to present their work, whilst striving to nurture and promote dance talent in the Western Cape.  The festival has grown exponentially and become one of the “must-see activities” on Cape Town’s events calendar.  

The highly acclaimed iKapa Dance Theatre presents FUSE, a creation originally performed in collaboration with New York’s Steps Ensemble in 2010. This production offers four different interpretations of the theme of Peace & Reconciliation from two top Cape Town based companies and displays their diversity of dance styles as well as their intense technical and artistic abilities. 21 - 22 May 2011.

South Africa’s leading integrated contemporary dance initiative, Remix Dance Company, will hold auditions for two dancers or physical performers to the join the company in 2011.
